Jeremy Messersmith – A Girl, A Boy and a Graveyard
2AM Club – Worry About You
Ok, I missed the boat on this one, but Happy Hanukkah! My favorite Jewish Reggae Artist is back this holiday season with a pretty good song (thanks NPR!) and a quality video featuring Matisyahu as Santa. Enjoy “F*ck you”. I thought I had all of Atmosphere’s discography but had missed this gem. If you don’t know Jeremy Messersmith, you should. It’s very mellow music from a Minnesota artist who has great videos from Eric Powerup [http://www.ericpowerup.net/], who does some of the coolest animations and papercraft videos around. Finally, 2AM Club…I’m not as keen on the chorus as the verses, but overall the song is good. Never heard of the group until a Benzi mixtape but I think this song is worth a listen.
The oath of the inseparableness of two together, of the woman that
loves me and whom I love more than my life, that oath swearing,
(O I willingly stake all for you,
O let me be lost if it must be so!
O you and I! what is it to us what the rest do or think?
What is all else to us? only that we enjoy each other and exhaust
each other if it must be so;)

Frank Turner – I Still Believe (this is Molly’s pick…you’ll dig it)
Jimmy Eat World – Here it Goes
The Roots feat. John Legend – The Fire
Kanye’s new album is seriously awesome; not sure if there isn’t a song I don’t love (douche? yes; brilliant artist? yes). Kenny found this one and it’s awesome; in his words, Eddie Vedder-ish (I agree). Molly found the Frank Turner song, it’s punky, UK hipster music with tattoos. 4. is an old Jimmy Eat World song, I just found it a few weeks ago and it’s risen to a current fav. How can you have a top five without the Roots (first ever concert when I was 16 btw).
I open my scuttle at night and see the far-sprinkled systems,
And all I see multiplied as high as I can cipher edge but the rim of
the farther systems.
Wider and wider they spread, expanding, always expanding, Outward and outward and forever outward.
My sun has his sun and round him obediently wheels,
He joins with his partners a group of superior circuit,
And greater sets follow, making specks of the greatest inside them.
There is no stoppage and never can be stoppage,
If I, you, and the worlds, and all beneath or upon their surfaces,
were this moment reduced back to a pallid float, it would
not avail the long run,
We should surely bring up again where we now stand,
And surely go as much farther, and then farther and farther.

Man or woman, I might tell how I like you, but cannot,
And might tell what it is in me and what it is in you, but cannot,
And might tell that pining I have, that pulse of my nights and days.
Behold, I do not give lectures or a little charity,
When I give I give myself.

If you haven’t heard Kanye’s new album (I know, he’s a dick) you should definitely find a copy to listen to. It’s a masterpiece. Civil Twilight is mellow gold, but good enough that I listened to the whole album on long runs. Naked and Famous I found only recently (awesome, especially you’re into Passion Pit). Mike Posner, nuff said. John Butler Trio: that dudes a dirty looking hippy, but the music is top notch.
Probably helps that I started jettisoning the extra weight I was carrying around starting this past July. In any event, running this 2nd marathon was a lot of fun and I owe a lot of thank yous.
Thank you to:
Molly: for cheering me at mile 14 and joining me for a memorable trip to Philly (and carting my butt back home the day of the race)
Clif Bar: for your oaty, delicious (and sometimes caffeinated) energy bars
Nike: for making shoes that didn’t do a bit of damage to my feet in nearly 700 miles since July — not even a blister
Saucony: for the sweet running pants that kept me from freezing so many 5am mornings this fall
Music: for making the runs not-so-boring (specifically John Butler Trio, Jeremy Messersmith, Civil Twilight and Kings of Leon, whose albums I listened to one after another over the nearly 4 hour run)
Philly Cheese Steaks: for being my end goal/reward (btw, cheese whiz is theonly way to go)
The Society Hill Hotel: for being such a sweet hotel
And last but not least:
Nip tape: for preventing countless “gun shot” wounds
